Coffee Run

I take my coffee several ways. I will start my morning with a hot cup of 3-in-1 hazelnut instant coffee, usually around 5 AM. This particular coffee is not sold in our local supermarkets. Instead, they’re being sold in shops we call ‘Value Dollar’. They mostly sell cheap imported goods, largely from countries like the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc. And their stock supply is not constant. Sometimes, I may have to wait a few days before the coffee gets re-stock. If I’m desperate, I will visit other outlets that are further away.

When I reach the office at 8 AM, I will get another cup of coffee, from a local homemade stall. Iced or hot will depend on how I feel when I step out of the train station. Local homemade coffees are usually very thick and sweet.

When I’m home during the afternoons, I will have a cold can of Nescafe coffee. It is not the best tasting but it gets me going after the 2 PM slump. Lastly, I’ll have another hot cup of the 3-in-1 coffee with my husband at around 8 PM. It’s usually the time I am done cleaning the dishes after dinner.

Having this cup with my husband only started 4 months ago. Prior to this, he was not appreciative of coffee. Me? I had my first taste of black coffee when I was still in pre-school. Before motherhood, one cup of coffee a day was a perfect balance. Now, I need at least four cups to keep myself sane.

I seek comfort in coffee. Sometimes when I feel a certain kind of frustration, I take a sip and I feel 20% better than I did before.
