My Second Birth Story
On 15 July 2021 @ 1 PM, I went to the toilet to pee but was greeted by a bloody show. But this time, I was bleeding non-stop. I called Dr Aziz’s clinic and they advised me to head to the hospital. We packed, prepared the necessary and left home. In the car, my contractions have started. We reached Parkway East at about 4.15 PM and were ushered to the labor ward, strapped in, and ready to take the swab test.
At 5 PM, contractions were stronger but still bearable. Dr. Aziz came in to do VE. I am only 4cm dilated. He burst my waterbag and said that we needed to make the labor progress faster as the baby had already passed motion inside. At 5.30 PM, they fixed an IV drip and increased the dosage at 6.30 PM.
At 7 PM, contractions were much stronger and I finally got the approval to use the gas.
At 7.30 PM, the nurse increased the drip dosage again.
By 8 PM, my contractions were very intense so I put away my mobile phone and held on to the bed handles. I did the same as before, toggling between deep breathing and groaning in pain. At 8.30 PM, they increased the dosage again. I had another VE and I was already 8cm dilated.
I took the nurse’s advice to get the pethidine jab. I declined at first because I remembered how painful it was when they injected my thigh during my first labor. I remembered I let out a loud scream. However, this time it was painless because the nurse injected my upper thigh instead. The same nurse also tried to insert a catheter but to no avail, because I “wouldn’t cooperate”.
By 9 PM, I was fully dilated. I also remembered begging the nurse to tell Dr Aziz to vacuum the baby out once he arrives.
At 9.20 PM, I stopped using the gas and started pushing. The urge to poo was so bad. At this point, I asked myself why I wanted another baby again. Soon enough, Dr. Aziz came in.
I safely delivered at 9.42 PM with the assistance of the vacuum. I immediately felt weak and just zoned out. Shut my eyes and lie motionlessly for a good 10 minutes or so.
I felt the placenta being pulled out and the pokes of the needle during stitching. I had a skin-to-skin moment with my baby for a good half an hour. By 10.40 PM, I was wheeled to the normal ward.
